“Side Effects” stars Rooney Mara as a woman who tries a new anti-depression drug with tragic results. It’s the latest from director Steven Soderbergh, who is obviously still harboring a “Magic Mike” crush. He brings Channing Tatum along for a small role but then makes the odd choice of keeping him clothed.
“Side Effects” starts off asking big, important questions about mental illness and our reliance on pharmaceuticals but it gives up and becomes something like an episode of “Law & Order.” A really GOOD “Law & Order,” so I’m still giving it a B.
This movie is worth the ticket price due to one particularly HOT sex scene towards the end. I can’t tell you too much without giving away the story, but people will be talking about it. Let’s just say that, when you hear yourself muttering, “HOLY S#%+,” you’ve found it!
Ok, if the great Steven Soderbergh can recycle cast members (he does it ALL the time), then we are taking the liberty to recycle one of favorite side dishes for this pairs well with.
And speaking of hot, sexy love scenes, we don’t think there’s anything sexier than the candy of meats: bacon. Well, Channing Tatum frying bacon shirtless*. OMG, can you imagine?! Gonna need some alone time…
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon in olive oil for three minutes. Add Brussels sprouts to the skillet, stirring constantly to coat and continue cooking for an additional three minutes. Add all remaining ingredients and sauté for 10-12 minutes or until Brussels sprouts are tender, stirring often.
